E KOMO MAIWelcome to the website of the Hawaii State Student Council (HSSC), the official representation of Hawaii’s 180,000 public school students. The council is comprised of members spanning the several islands of the state who meet on a regular basis to discuss students concerns and action to remedy the present and future issues of education and student life.
Aloha everyone! It is an honor to have been elected as the Hawaii State Student Council Chairperson for this school year. It's always been a passion of mine to help those in my community so I am ecstatic to serve the public schools across the State of Hawaii. I am proud to share that I am a senior from Aiea High School, home of the Na Ali'i. Going into this school year, I know how important the concept of innovation is for each individual. Having to change the way we traditionally go about our everyday lives one day, and then needing to come up with an entire new system the next, is a skill and a necessity that I hope to teach others this year.
With innovation I know that we will work with our committees to improve school design, provide a platform for students to speak up about concerns or issues, and to maintain the continuity of the Aloha Spirit in Hawaii. A personal goal I plan on taking action with in HSSC is to have more of our schools become Nationally certified by the National Student Council. All leaders deserve to be recognized for their hard work and tireless efforts that they provide to our peers throughout the year. I have the utmost confidence that the Executive Board and I will do the most to overcome the many obstacles that are inevitably coming our way. Here's to a year full of exciting opportunities and accomplishments. ![]() Jessica Chang Hawaiʻi State Student Council Chairperson 2020-2021 |
ENGAGE WITH USThe Hawaii State Student Council is the voice of Hawaii’s 180,000 public school students. The council meets on a regular basis to discuss student issues and youth concerns, and members also address issues before the state Legislature and Hawaii State Board of Education.
HSSC gains its strength from the present network of student councils (state, districts, and schools); however, we would like to expand upon the status quo. We want to establish a network that comprises every student in the state. Hawaii students can accomplish this ambitious goal by taking part in student government and staying informed on the issues. Our website offers students information on the council’s activities, education updates, and statewide resources. The website further facilitates our desire to hear from our peers, so give us an email–tell us what you think or join our Facebook group and subscribe to our “Tweets.” Developing this network is key to growing in our capacity to initiate change in our schools and communities. We are the voice of the students of Hawaii. EXTERNAL LINKS |
