ABOUT THE BOE STUDENT MEMBER
A public high school student is selected each year by the Hawaiʻi State Student Council and Board of Education Chairperson to represent Hawaiʻi’s 165,000 K-12 public school students. This student’s insight is counted on to help decisions be made in the best interest of students, and must therefore have a broad understanding of where students stand on issues. The BOE student member has the same responsibilities of other BOE members, but does not have voting rights on Board decisions.
